The KENNAMETAL 4050453 is a CNMG431RP turning insert in grade KCU25, manufactured from solid carbide with a PVD-applied AlTiN coating. The insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, a 3/16-inch thickness, and a 1/64-inch (0.0156-inch) corner radius with chamfered and honed cutting edges. Designed for the KENLOC clamping system, it carries a neutral hand designation and a negative rake geometry with a negative side clearance. This insert is suited for steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous materials, and superalloys and titanium, making it a versatile option for shops handling mixed-material turning work.
The 4050453 is intended for turning, facing, and boring operations in both roughing and medium machining applications. Its KCU25 grade provides moderate wear-resistance balanced with toughness, making it appropriate for interrupted cuts and variable stock conditions. The insert is sized to ANSI code 431 and ISO code CNMG120404RP, fitting standard CNMG-style toolholders used on CNC lathes and manual turning centers in production and job-shop environments. Four cutting edges are available per insert, improving cost-per-edge economics in high-volume operations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for standard CNMG-style toolholders conforming to ANSI size code 431 and ISO size code CNMG120404. Compatible with clamp and pin insert holding methods.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician on a CNC or manual lathe. Power down and lock out the spindle before seating or indexing inserts. Use the appropriate KENLOC-compatible clamp and pin toolholder to secure the insert; do not substitute holding hardware that does not match the insert pocket geometry. Inspect the pocket seat and clamp surfaces for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure proper contact and edge alignment.
