The KENNAMETAL 4050448 is a VBGT331HP carbide turning insert with KCU25 grade and an AlTiN PVD coating. It features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a neutral hand orientation and screw-on holding method. The insert measures 1.3076 inches in length with a 0.3750-inch inscribed circle and a 0.0156-inch corner radius. With a positive rake angle of 15 degrees, a 5-degree relief angle, and a honed cutting edge, it is engineered for finishing operations. The KCU25 grade provides moderate wear resistance and toughness across a broad range of workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and superalloys including titanium. It is designed for finishing passes where surface finish and dimensional control are critical. The HP chip breaker geometry is optimized for light to moderate depths of cut with maximum depth of cut reaching 0.4354 inches. It conforms to ANSI insert code VBGT331 and ISO insert code VBGT160404, making it compatible with standard VBGT-style screw-on toolholders used on CNC lathes and turning centers in both production and job-shop environments.

Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket locating surfaces before tightening the clamping screw to avoid insert rocking or premature edge failure. Inspect the toolholder pocket seating surface for chips or debris prior to seating a new insert.
