Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 4050400 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNMG430MS geometry with KCU25 grade, designed for external and internal turning operations in CNC and manual lathe applications. It features a PVD-applied AlTiN coating and an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape that provides two usable cutting edges per side for a total of four cutting edges. The insert measures 12.9 mm (0.507 inches) in length with a 0.500-inch inscribed circle, a 0.004-inch corner radius, and a 0.1875-inch thickness. The MS chipbreaker geometry is engineered for roughing and medium machining, balancing moderate wear resistance with toughness across a range of workpiece materials.

This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous alloys, and superalloys including titanium. The KCU25 grade covers ISO material groups P, M, K, N, and S, making it a versatile choice for production environments where a single insert grade must handle mixed-material runs. It fits KENLOC-style toolholders that accept CNMG-style inserts with clamp or pin holding methods. Maximum depth of cut is 0.169 inches. This insert is typically installed by machinists and CNC operators in metalworking and manufacturing shops.

Key Features

  • AlTiN PVD coating provides heat resistance and moderate wear resistance across multiple workpiece material categories
  • 80-degree diamond insert shape (ANSI code CNMG4302, ISO code CNMG120401) with negative rake and negative side clearance
  • MS chipbreaker geometry rated for roughing and medium machining applications
  • Four total cutting edges extend tool utilization per insert
  • Honed cutting edge style reduces micro-chipping on entry and exit
  • Complies with ANSI and ISO insert standards for drop-in compatibility with standard CNMG toolholders

Compatibility

Designed for use in KENLOC-series and standard CNMG-style toolholders accepting negative-rake inserts with clamp or pin holding methods. Compatible with ANSI size code 4302 and ISO size code 120401 toolholder pockets.

Installation Notes

Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench or clamp screw tool specified by the toolholder manufacturer when seating the insert. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installing a fresh insert edge. Always verify insert orientation and chipbreaker direction relative to the intended cut direction before resuming operation.
