The KENNAMETAL 4048738 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for demanding metal removal in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and hard materials. It carries a 0.75-inch mill diameter, a 1.5-inch length of cut, and a 0.03-inch corner radius that protects the cutting edge and reduces chipping at the tool tip. The AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride) PVD coating provides thermal resistance and extended tool life at elevated cutting temperatures. With five flutes and a high-helix spiral flute geometry, it supports both roughing and finishing operations in a single tool. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers working in job shops, aerospace, and precision manufacturing will find this tool well matched to tight-tolerance applications in hard and exotic alloys.
This end mill fits into standard toolholders accepting a 0.75-inch shank with a Weldon flat. The 4-inch overall length and short length-type classification make it suitable for rigid setups with minimal overhang. Compatible toolholding systems listed by Kennametal include the EM-CV Form AD and EM IN-HSK Form A holders. It is cataloged under the UCDE series, which targets high-performance finishing and semi-finishing in production environments where surface finish and edge integrity are critical. Right-hand cutting direction and right-hand flute orientation are standard for conventional CNC machining center setups.
Compatible toolholding systems specified by Kennametal include EM-CV Form AD and EM IN-HSK Form A holders. Designed for CNC machining centers using 3/4-inch bore toolholders with Weldon flat drive. Intended workpiece materials are steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), and hard materials (H) per ISO material classification.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Confirm the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before loading or unloading the tool. Seat the Weldon flat against the setscrew in the toolholder and torque the setscrew per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Because this end mill is not centercutting, do not plunge directly into solid material - use a pre-drilled hole, helical interpolation, or a ramping entry to begin the cut.
