The KENNAMETAL 4048732 is a solid carbide square end mill engineered for high-performance material removal in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and hardened materials. Built to KENNAMETAL UCDE series standards, it carries an AlTiN coating that improves heat resistance and extends tool life in demanding cutting environments. The cutter measures 0.625 inches in diameter with a 1.25-inch length of cut and a 3.5-inch overall length. Five flutes with a variable index geometry reduce harmonic chatter during aggressive passes. Right-hand cut and right-hand spiral flute configuration with a 38-degree helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation. This tool is specified for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills where precision profiling and slotting are required.
This end mill is suited for ferrous machining applications in job shops, tool rooms, and production environments. It targets workpiece materials classified under ISO P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), and H (hardened materials). The 5/8-inch shank diameter fits standard ER and milling collet systems commonly found on vertical machining centers. Single-end configuration means the tool is replaced rather than rotated when the cutting end dulls, which is standard practice in production floor settings. Material grade KCPM15 indicates a fine-grain carbide substrate selected for toughness and wear resistance in interrupted and continuous cuts on difficult alloys.
Designed as an OEM-specification solid carbide end mill in the KENNAMETAL UCDE series, suitable for 5/8-inch collet or chuck toolholders on CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers used in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and hardened material applications.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the control placed in E-stop or lock-out before tool changes. Use a calibrated torque wrench on collet nuts to the toolholder manufacturer specification — do not overtighten freehand. Verify runout with a dial indicator after clamping, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear and reduces surface finish quality on this five-flute geometry.
