The KENNAMETAL 4048720 is a single-end square end mill engineered for high-performance material removal in demanding machining applications. Built from solid carbide with an AlTiN coating, this tool delivers heat resistance and wear durability when cutting steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and hardened materials. It features 5 spiral flutes with a variable index geometry and a 38-degree helix angle, producing stable cuts and efficient chip evacuation. The 3/8-inch cutting diameter and 7/8-inch length of cut make it well suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling operations where precision and tool life are critical priorities for machinists and tooling specialists.
This end mill is designed for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills operating on ferrous and hardened workpiece materials. The UCDE series, material grade KCPM15, is optimized for aggressive cuts in steel and stainless steel as well as cast iron and hardened materials. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration is standard for conventional spindle setups. The single-end design and 3/8-inch shank diameter make it compatible with standard collet chucks and end mill holders commonly found in production and job-shop environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard tooling option within the KENNAMETAL UCDE series. Primary workpiece material compatibility includes steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and hardened materials as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation and setup should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing tooling. Verify proper collet or holder size matches the 3/8-inch shank diameter and that runout is within acceptable tolerance before engaging the cut. This tool is not center-cutting and is not suitable for plunge operations.
