The KENNAMETAL 4048686 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding machining environments. It features a 5/8 inch cutting diameter with a 0.03 inch corner radius, producing a controlled edge break that reduces stress concentration and extends tool life in ferrous and hardened materials. The 3-flute, coarse-pitch geometry provides efficient chip evacuation while maintaining rigidity. An AlTiN coating delivers thermal resistance and hardness at elevated cutting temperatures, making this end mill well-suited for dry or near-dry machining. The 1-5/8 inch length of cut supports slotting, profiling, and pocketing operations across a range of workpiece materials.
This end mill is intended for use in CNC machining centers and milling machines running ferrous alloys, stainless steel, titanium, and similar hard or abrasive materials. The centercutting geometry allows plunge entry, giving machinists flexibility in ramping and helical interpolation strategies. With a 5/8 inch shank diameter matching the cutting diameter, it seats directly into standard ER or side-lock toolholders. The HPRSS series is engineered for high-speed, high-efficiency roughing and finishing passes in production and job-shop environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard tooling option within the KENNAMETAL HPRSS series for CNC milling applications requiring a 5/8 inch diameter corner radius end mill with AlTiN coating.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the toolholder to the recommended gauge line and torque collet nuts or set screws according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, as excessive runout accelerates flute wear and can cause premature tool breakage.
