The KENNAMETAL 4048627 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling in ferrous and hardened materials. Built to the HPFSS series specification and coated with AlTiN for heat resistance and tool life, this single-end mill features five flutes with a 45-degree helix angle and a spiral flute geometry. The 1 inch cutting diameter is matched by a 1 inch Weldon flat shank for positive drive and reduced pullout risk. It is center-cutting and right-hand cutting with a right-hand flute direction. The material grade is KCPM15, a submicron carbide substrate suited to demanding machining environments.
This end mill is intended for use on CNC machining centers and manual mills in industrial, toolroom, and production environments. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and hardened materials, corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, K, and H. The 3.25 inch length of cut supports deep-slot and long-reach applications, while the 6 inch overall length accommodates setups requiring extended reach without the use of extension holders. It is suited for roughing and finishing passes where tool rigidity and coating durability are priorities.
Designed for use in milling applications on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and hardened materials (ISO codes P, M, K, H). Compatible with standard 1 inch end mill holders and Weldon-style set-screw tool holders on CNC and manual machining centers.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer's toolholding specifications. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked out before mounting or removing the end mill. Seat the Weldon flat fully against the set screw in the holder and torque the set screw per the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut to avoid premature edge wear or tool failure.
