The KENNAMETAL 4047742 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding material applications. With a 5/16-inch (0.3125-inch) mill diameter and a 0.03-inch corner radius, this tool produces accurate edge profiles while reducing stress concentration at corners. The 4-flute, AlTiN-coated design supports both roughing and finishing operations in a single tool, making it well suited for shops running steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and hard materials. The submicron carbide grade and high-helix geometry of the HPHV series deliver thermal resistance and chip evacuation efficiency at elevated cutting speeds.
This end mill is built for CNC machining centers running ferrous and hard-material workpieces. It is rated for primary use in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and hard material (ISO material codes P, M, K, and H). The extended-reach configuration, with a 1/2-inch length of cut and 2-inch overall length, accommodates deeper pockets and longer reach applications without requiring a stub-reach tool change. Single-end construction and right-hand cutting and flute direction make this a standard drop-in for most right-hand spindle setups.
Designed for use with HC 1/2 through HC 1-1/4 hydraulic sleeves (inch bore, inch shank), HC 20M through HC 32M hydraulic sleeves (metric sleeve, inch bore), and ER single angle standard collets. Shank diameter is 5/16 inch (0.3125 inch), straight-cylindrical type.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing tools. Verify collet or hydraulic sleeve bore size matches the 5/16-inch shank before clamping. Confirm tool projection and runout with a dial indicator before initiating a cut, particularly in extended-reach setups where deflection risk increases.
