The KENNAMETAL 4047702 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling in ferrous and hardened materials. With a 3/16 inch mill diameter, 5/16 inch length of cut, and a 38-degree helix angle, this tool delivers aggressive material removal while maintaining edge stability. The AlTiN coating adds heat resistance and wear life in demanding applications. It is center-cutting, allowing direct plunge entry, and features a right-hand cut with right-hand spiral flutes. Variable index geometry reduces harmonic vibration during interrupted cuts. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers working in production or job shop environments are the primary users of this tool.
The 4047702 is rated for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and hardened materials, covering ISO material groups P, M, K, and H. At 1-1/2 inch overall length with a 3/16 inch shank diameter, it fits standard ER collet chucks and end mill holders common in vertical machining centers and CNC mills. The HPHV series designation indicates a high-performance, high-velocity geometry suited for aggressive feed rates and higher spindle speeds. It is a single-end design with no chipbreaker, optimized for finishing and light roughing passes in harder alloys.
Designed for use in CNC vertical machining centers and manual mills with standard collet or end mill holder tooling accepting a 3/16 inch shank. Rated for steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and hardened materials per HPHV series application guidelines.
Install in a clean, properly sized ER collet or end mill holder and torque the retention nut to the toolholder manufacturer specification before running. Ensure runout is within acceptable limits before engaging the workpiece, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear on small-diameter carbide tools. Confirm spindle speed and feed rate are consistent with the material being cut and the tool diameter. Never use a worn or damaged collet, as lateral loading on a 3/16 inch carbide shank can cause tool fracture.
