The KENNAMETAL 4045337 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VBGT220LF geometry with KCU10 grade, designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 0.25-inch inscribed circle, and a 0.004-inch corner radius with a honed cutting edge. The PVD-applied TiAlN coating delivers high wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials. With a positive rake angle and positive side clearance, this insert is optimized for finishing and light machining operations where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are priorities. Installation uses a screw-on holding method. Licensed HVAC technicians, machinists, and tooling specialists are the typical end users.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring applications. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, cast iron, and aluminum - corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, K, N, S, and H. The LF chip breaker geometry is engineered for finishing and light machining passes where controlled chip formation and tight tolerances are required. It performs across both high wear-resistance and moderate toughness demands depending on the workpiece material.
Designed as a screw-on replacement turning insert for toolholders accepting VBGT220LF (ANSI: VBGT2202, ISO: VBGT110301) geometry inserts. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards for interchangeability with compatible screw-on toolholder systems.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians familiar with indexable insert systems. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the manufacturer-specified torque driver for the clamping screw to avoid cracking the carbide substrate. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surface for wear or debris before seating the new insert.
