The KENNAMETAL 4045220 is a solid carbide turning insert with a CPGT21.52LF geometry and KCU10 grade designation. It features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, which delivers high wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. The insert carries an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, an 11-degree relief angle, and a honed cutting edge style. With two cutting edges per insert and an LF chip breaker designed for finishing and light machining operations, this insert is suited for precision turning, facing, and boring applications where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are priorities. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production or job-shop environments are the primary installers.
This insert fits screw-on style toolholders and is designed for finishing and light machining passes on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, superalloys, and titanium workpieces. The LF chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip formation at lighter depths of cut, making it well suited for close-tolerance turning and finish boring cycles. The neutral hand orientation allows flexible use in a variety of cut directions. Applications include external turning, facing operations, and internal boring where the maximum depth of cut does not exceed 0.0845 inches.
Designed for use in CPGT-style screw-on turning toolholders accepting inserts with ANSI size code 2152 and ISO size code 060208. Suitable for multi-use applications including turning, facing, and boring across compatible toolholder systems.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Before indexing or replacing the insert, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret or tool block. Use the appropriate torque driver for the screw-on clamping screw to avoid insert movement or screw damage during cuts. Verify seating and edge orientation against the programmed tool offset before resuming cuts.
