The KENNAMETAL 4045204 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CCMT3251FW geometry with KCU10 grade, designed for precision finish turning on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert carries a PVD-applied TiAlN coating that delivers high wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials. It features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/64-inch corner radius (0.0156 inches), and an FW wiper chip breaker geometry engineered for finishing operations. The screw-on mounting style and neutral hand orientation make it compatible with a wide range of CCMT-style toolholders. Two cutting edges per insert extend tool life between index cycles.
This insert is suited for finish turning, facing, and boring operations in job shop and production environments. Its primary workpiece material ratings cover steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, with secondary ratings extending to cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous materials. The positive rake geometry and honed cutting edge style reduce cutting forces and improve surface finish on demanding materials. Machinists and CNC operators working on tight-tolerance parts will find the FW wiper geometry particularly effective for achieving consistent surface finishes at higher feed rates without sacrificing dimensional accuracy.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for CCMT3251-style screw-on insert seats. ANSI insert code CCMT3251, ISO insert code CCMT09T304. Compatible with toolholders accepting CCMT geometry inserts with a screw-on (hole) holding method.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and runout.
