The KENNAMETAL 4045164 is a VNMG332MP solid carbide turning insert in the KCU10 grade, designed for high-performance metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, which provides thermal resistance and edge durability across a range of cutting conditions. The insert has a 35-degree diamond shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 3/16-inch thickness, and a 1/32-inch corner radius. With 4 cutting edges and a neutral hand orientation, it is suited for productive use in production turning environments. Licensed machinists and CNC operators handling steel, stainless steel, and superalloy components are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is intended for use on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces. It carries ISO material codes P, M, and S as primary designations, with K and N as secondary codes. The KENLOC series insert supports multiple operations including turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring. The chamfered and honed cutting edge style and MP chip breaker geometry make it well suited for medium machining passes where chip control and edge stability are critical. It is held in the toolholder using a clamp and pin method.
Designed for use with KENLOC-series toolholders that accept VNMG-style inserts with a clamp and pin holding method. Primary workpiece materials are steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. Secondary compatible materials include cast iron, non-ferrous, and additional steel grades per ISO codes K, N, and P.
This insert is installed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. The machine spindle must be stopped and all motion fully arrested before changing inserts. Use the appropriate KENNAMETAL KENLOC toolholder wrench or torx key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the clamp. Inspect the insert seat and clamp pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and prevent premature edge failure.
