The KENNAMETAL 4045151 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal removal on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Carrying the ANSI designation VNMG331P and ISO designation VNMG160404, this insert features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape and the KCU10 grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating. The TiAlN coating delivers high wear resistance across a broad range of cutting conditions. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch corner radius, the insert is suited to medium-depth finishing and semi-finishing operations. Licensed machinists, toolroom operators, and CNC programmers working in job shop or production environments install and index this insert as part of standard tooling maintenance.
This insert is optimized for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium, aligning with ISO material codes P, M, K, N, S, and H. The KCU10 grade provides a high-wear-resistance to moderate-wear-resistance and toughness balance across those material groups. The KENLOC series chip breaker geometry targets medium machining conditions, helping control chip formation during mid-range feed and depth-of-cut passes. Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for KENNAMETAL KENLOC series toolholders accepting VNMG331 (ANSI) or VNMG160404 (ISO) inserts with a clamp or pin holding method.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine in a full stop, spindle locked, and all energy sources isolated per LOTO procedures. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamp hardware when seating the insert to avoid microcracking the carbide substrate. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Verify depth-of-cut and feed rate parameters are within the grade and chip breaker range before resuming cuts.
