The KENNAMETAL 4045138 is a solid carbide turning insert designated CCGT2151LF in the KCU10 grade, designed for high-precision finishing and light machining operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, delivering high wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials. It carries an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees and a 7-degree relief angle, producing clean surface finishes with reduced cutting forces. The 1/64-inch corner radius and honed cutting edge style make this insert well suited for fine finishing passes where dimensional accuracy and surface quality are priorities. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is intended for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and aluminum. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and light machining, providing reliable chip control at tighter depths of cut. The neutral hand orientation allows use in standard right-hand turning toolholders that accept CCGT-style screw-on inserts. Maximum depth of cut is 0.0845 inches. The KCU10 grade offers high to moderate wear resistance and toughness across ISO material groups P, M, K, N, S, and H, making it a versatile choice for shops running mixed-material production work.

Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine in a full stop and all motion locked out per established lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque range for screw-on inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before indexing to a fresh cutting edge. Do not run the insert beyond visible wear limits, as edge breakdown on finishing inserts can rapidly degrade workpiece surface finish and dimensional tolerances.
