The KENNAMETAL 4045101 is a solid carbide turning insert with an AlTiN (TiAlN) PVD coating, manufactured under the KENLOC series and designated by industry code VNGG3305LF KCU10. It features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 0.375 inch inscribed circle, a 0.008 inch corner radius, and a negative rake and relief geometry. The LF chip breaker is optimized for finishing and light machining operations. With four available cutting edges, neutral hand orientation, and a honed cutting edge style, this insert is suited for high-wear-resistance applications in steel, stainless steel, and superalloy turning on CNC lathes and turning centers. Grade KCU10 provides a balance of wear resistance and toughness across multiple workpiece material categories.
This insert is designed for precision turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring applications. It performs across a range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, superalloys, and titanium, covering ISO material groups P, M, K, N, S, and H. The LF chip breaker geometry supports finishing cuts and light stock removal where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are priorities. Maximum depth of cut is 0.435 inches. The insert mounts via clamp or pin holding methods and is compatible with standard VNGG-style toolholders.
Designed for use in VNGG-style toolholders and KENLOC series tooling systems. Conforms to ANSI insert code VNGG3305 and ISO insert code VNGG160402LF, making it a direct fit for any holder specifying those standards. Suitable for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, superalloys, and titanium workpieces.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all motion is locked out before seating or replacing inserts. Verify the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before installing. Use the appropriate clamp screw torque per the toolholder manufacturer's specification — do not substitute torque values not specified in the holder documentation.
