The KENNAMETAL 4044822 is a TCGT2151LF solid carbide turning insert with a KCU10 grade designation and a PVD-applied TiAlN coating. It features a 60-degree triangular shape with a 1/4-inch inscribed circle, a 1/64-inch corner radius (0.0156 inches), and a positive rake angle of 5 degrees. The 7-degree relief angle and honed cutting edge style are engineered for finishing and light machining operations. With three usable cutting edges and screw-on holding, this insert is suited for high-efficiency turning in ferrous and non-ferrous applications where wear resistance and surface finish quality are the primary concerns.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and aluminum. Its LF chip breaker geometry targets finishing and light machining passes where tight tolerances and consistent surface finish are required. The KCU10 grade provides high to moderate wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials, making it versatile for shops running multiple material types. The insert is cataloged under ANSI code TCGT2151 and ISO code TCGT110204, easing cross-reference against equivalent tools from other manufacturers.
Designed as a screw-on replacement insert for TCGT-style toolholders accepting ANSI size code 2151 or ISO size code 110204 inserts. Verify toolholder seat geometry and screw hole diameter (0.1102 inches) before installation.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician using the appropriate Torx or socket-head cap screw supplied with or specified for the toolholder. Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert flush against the pocket walls and tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new edge to prevent micro-fracture at the cutting edge.
