The KENNAMETAL 4042540 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-precision drilling in demanding production environments. Sized at wire gauge number 41, it has a decimal diameter of 0.0960 inches. The 140-degree point angle provides aggressive penetration and self-centering entry, reducing walking on hard or interrupted surfaces. A multilayer TiAlN coating extends tool life by improving heat resistance and abrasion resistance at elevated cutting speeds. Coolant-through capability supports chip evacuation and thermal management in deep-hole or high-cycle applications. At 1.9685 inches overall length, this stub-length geometry offers added rigidity compared to jobber-length drills, making it well suited to CNC machining centers and screw machines where runout control is critical.
This drill bit is intended for use in CNC screw machines, machining centers, and precision drilling fixtures where consistent hole quality in small-diameter bores is required. The stub flute length of 0.6299 inches and maximum drilling depth of 0.4331 inches position this tool for short-hole, high-tolerance operations. Typical materials include hardened steels, stainless steels, cast irons, and other ferrous alloys where TiAlN coating performance is most effective. It is installed and used by machinists and CNC operators in production shops, aerospace component manufacturing, and precision job shops.
Designed as a direct-fit tool for CNC screw machines, machining centers, and precision drilling fixtures accepting a straight cylindrical shank with a 0.1181-inch shank diameter. Conforms to DIN 6537K specification for stub-length carbide drill bits.
This drill bit should be installed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer guidelines for tool holding and runout tolerances. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing tooling. Use an appropriate collet or precision drill chuck sized for the 0.1181-inch straight shank to minimize runout. Verify coolant-through passages are clear and that the machine delivers adequate coolant pressure before running at full cycle speed.
