The KENNAMETAL 4034828 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision groove turning and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the KCU10 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied AlTiN coating, this insert delivers thermal resistance and extended tool life in demanding cutting conditions. The GMN chip breaker geometry and neutral hand orientation make it adaptable to a wide range of grooving applications. With a cutting width of 0.25 inches (6.35 mm) and a maximum depth of cut of 0.2047 inches (5.18 mm), it is sized for medium-duty groove work. The full-radius nose profile at 0.125 inches (3.18 mm) corner radius supports smooth chip flow and consistent finish quality. Machinists and toolroom technicians working in metalworking shops are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is suited for grooving and profiling operations on ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials where a PVD AlTiN-coated carbide grade is appropriate. The A4 series designation and GMN chip breaker geometry target applications requiring controlled chip evacuation in moderate to aggressive feed conditions. Material grades C3 and C4 indicate suitability for cast iron and steel turning applications. Installation is performed by machinists or CNC toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and insert key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the clamping screw — do not overtighten or use impact tools. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for wear or debris before seating the new insert.
