The KENNAMETAL 4034819 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the R0500GMP geometry in the A4 series, this insert features a 5 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 4.09 mm. The KCU10 grade substrate is finished with an AlTiN coating applied via PVD process, providing elevated heat resistance and extended tool life in demanding cutting conditions. The full-radius corner geometry (2.50 mm corner radius) and GMP chip breaker promote controlled chip evacuation. This insert is suited for machinists and toolroom technicians running interrupted cuts or grooving operations where chip control and edge integrity are critical.
This insert is appropriate for use in general-purpose grooving applications across a range of workpiece materials corresponding to material grades C3 and C4, including cast irons and non-ferrous alloys. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with standard straight-shank grooving toolholders designed for the A4 insert series. It is rated as a multi-use tool, supporting grooving, profiling, and full-radius operations within a single insert geometry. Typical installation environments include production turning shops, job shops, and maintenance machining operations where consistent groove geometry and surface finish are required.
Designed for use with A4-series grooving toolholders accepting the R0500GMP insert style. Compatible with workpiece material grades C3 and C4. Catalog reference number A4R0500M05P00GMP.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and all axes at a safe home position before insert indexing or replacement. Ensure the toolholder pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Do not exceed the rated maximum depth of cut or feed parameters established in the applicable toolholder and machine documentation. Secure the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure using appropriate insert-clamping tooling.
