The KENNAMETAL 4034809 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the G187GMN geometry in the A4 series, it features a 4.76 mm (0.1874 inch) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 3.51 mm (0.1378 inch). The insert carries a KCU10 grade designation and is finished with an AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride) coating applied via a PVD process, providing thermal resistance and wear protection during interrupted cuts and general turning applications. Installation and setup are performed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
This grooving insert is suited for metric-dimensioned toolholders accepting an A4 series insert seat size 4. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with straight-plunge grooving operations. The GMN chip breaker geometry is engineered for controlled chip formation across the rated depth-of-cut range of 3.00 mm to 4.00 mm (0.1000 inch to 0.1500 inch). A corner radius of 0.79 mm (0.0312 inch) provides a defined edge break at groove walls. The insert is a multi-use tool, meaning it may be indexed or repositioned per the toolholder design before replacement.
Designed for use in A4 series grooving toolholders accepting insert seat size 4 with a neutral hand orientation. Refer to KENNAMETAL toolholder documentation to confirm specific holder compatibility before installation.
Grooving insert replacement and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine spindle fully stopped and all motion axes locked out per the machine tool manufacturer lockout/tagout procedure. Use the correct torque wrench and insert clamping hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not substitute fasteners. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before seating a new insert. Verify insert seating is flush and secure before resuming cutting operations.
