The KENNAMETAL 4034791 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external and internal grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the G0600GMP geometry in the A4 series, it features a 6 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 4.83 mm, making it well suited for medium-depth groove profiles. The KCU10 grade substrate is coated with AlTiN via a PVD process, providing thermal resistance and wear protection in interrupted cuts and varying workpiece materials rated at material grades C3 and C4. A positive rake geometry and GMP chip breaker work together to control chip flow and reduce cutting forces during finish and semi-finish grooving passes.
This insert is intended for use in production turning environments where consistent groove geometry and repeatable tool life are required. The neutral hand orientation makes it adaptable to standard grooving toolholders in both right-hand and left-hand setups. The A4 series designation aligns it with compatible toolholder bodies designed for that insert family. Machinists and CNC operators working in job shop and high-volume production settings will find this insert appropriate for grooving steel, cast iron, and similar materials within the C3 and C4 grade range. Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a full stop and locked-out state before any insert seating or torque operations. Seat the insert fully into the pocket before clamping to ensure proper engagement with the locating surfaces. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before each insert change. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's recommended clamping procedure; do not over-torque the clamping screw.
