The KENNAMETAL 4033858 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features an AlTiN coating applied via PVD process, providing enhanced heat resistance and tool life in demanding cutting applications. The insert carries a KCU25 manufacturer grade and an NG insert style with a 0.375 inch (9.53 mm) cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 0.25 inch (6.35 mm), and a corner radius of 0.0325 inch (0.83 mm). The clamp-style holding method secures the insert rigidly during interrupted or continuous grooving cuts. This insert is intended for use by machinists and CNC operators working with steel, stainless, and similar materials.
This insert is suited for external grooving, face grooving, and parting operations in production and job-shop turning environments. The right-hand configuration fits standard Top Notch toolholders designed for that hand orientation. The 55-degree included angle geometry and 11.51 mm cutting height support consistent chip control across a maximum depth of cut range of 5.00 mm to 10.00 mm (0.2000 to 0.3000 inch). Typical applications include groove forming on shafts, cylinders, and similar turned components in both light and moderate stock-removal scenarios.
Designed for use in Top Notch series toolholders that accept NG-style grooving inserts in a right-hand configuration. Verify toolholder insert pocket geometry and clamp compatibility before installation.
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC technician with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert securely - do not overtighten or substitute fasteners. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Follow shop safety protocols and machine manufacturer guidelines for tooling changes.
