The KENNAMETAL 4027917 is a spiral flute tap designed for metric threading in demanding machining environments. It cuts an M16x2 thread profile to a 6HX class of fit and is manufactured from powdered metal for consistent hardness and wear resistance. The multi-layer CrC/C and TiN coating reduces friction and extends tool life in abrasive and high-heat applications. With 4 left-hand flutes and a right-hand thread direction, this plug-chamfer tap evacuates chips upward through the flutes, making it well suited for blind-hole tapping. Coolant-through capability supports high-speed operations in production environments. A licensed machinist or CNC tooling technician typically installs and operates this tool.
This tap is intended for use in steel, stainless steel, and high-temperature alloys, corresponding to material codes P, M, and S. The plug chamfer provides a gradual lead-in over several threads, making it appropriate for through-holes and blind holes with sufficient thread engagement depth. With a tapping depth of 51.00 mm and an overall length of 110.00 mm, it fits standard CNC machining centers and tapping heads used in production shops and job shops running medium-to-heavy threading operations on ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces.
Rated for use in steel, stainless steel, and high-temperature alloys (material application codes P, M, and S). Designed for use in CNC machining centers and tapping heads that accept a 12.00 mm shank diameter. Part of the KENNAMETAL T621 series.
Installation and operation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the spindle and coolant supply are fully shut down before changing or inspecting the tap. Secure the shank in a rigid tap holder or collet chuck rated for the shank diameter to minimize runout. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine manufacturer guidelines for tapping feed rates and coolant flow when operating this tool.
