The KENNAMETAL 3871115 is a solid carbide grooving insert with the R0200GMP chip breaker geometry and KCU25 manufacturer grade, designed for precision external and internal grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a 2.00 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 1.70 mm, making it suited for fine, tight-tolerance groove profiles. Applied via a PVD process, the AlTiN coating provides thermal resistance and extended tool life in demanding cutting conditions. Machinists and toolroom technicians install this insert into compatible A4-series toolholders for high-precision turning work.
This insert is intended for use in metalworking applications where consistent groove geometry and repeatable insert indexing are critical. The full-radius profile with a 1.00 mm corner radius supports clean groove-bottom finishes. The neutral hand orientation makes it adaptable to a range of grooving configurations. It is suited for production turning environments handling steel, stainless steel, and similar materials where the KCU25 carbide grade and AlTiN coating perform effectively under moderate to high cutting speeds.
Designed for use in A4-series grooving toolholders. Manufacturer catalog reference: A4R0200M2SP00GMP. Compatible toolholder selection should be confirmed against KENNAMETAL A4-series system specifications for insert size 0200.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine powered down and in a locked-out state per applicable lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert fully into the toolholder pocket and torque the clamping screw per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the insert seat and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before installation to ensure proper seating and accurate cutting geometry. Do not use a damaged or worn insert seat, as improper seating can affect groove accuracy and tool life.
