The KENNAMETAL 3870474 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for precision milling of non-ferrous metals. It features a 3/8 inch cutting diameter, a 0.03 inch corner radius, and three right-hand spiral flutes with a high helix angle of 37 degrees. The long-length geometry provides a 1-1/4 inch length of cut and a 3-1/2 inch overall length, making it well suited for reaching into deeper pockets and slots. The submicron carbide grade delivers the hardness and edge retention needed for demanding cuts in aluminum, copper, and similar materials. This is a single-end, centercutting tool with a coarse pitch and a straight cylindrical shank.
This end mill is intended for roughing operations on non-ferrous metals in CNC machining centers and manual mills. The bright, uncoated finish is appropriate for aluminum and other non-ferrous workpiece materials where coating adhesion can cause built-up edge issues. The 3/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank is compatible with HC 1/2 through HC 1-1/4 hydraulic sleeve inch-bore toolholders. Machinists and CNC setup technicians working in job shops, aerospace component shops, and general metalworking environments will find this tool fits standard tooling setups without adapters.
Designed for use with HC 1/2 through HC 1-1/4 hydraulic sleeve inch-bore toolholders. Fits standard 3/8 inch straight-cylindrical collets and toolholders on CNC machining centers and manual mills configured for non-ferrous roughing operations.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in an e-stop or lockout/tagout state before changing tooling. Verify shank seating depth and runout after clamping, as excessive runout will accelerate corner radius wear. Follow the machine tool builder guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures when setting tool length offsets.
