The KENNAMETAL 3870473 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for precision milling of non-ferrous metals. It features a 3/8 inch cutting diameter, a 0.015 inch corner radius, and three right-hand spiral flutes with a high helix angle of 37 degrees. The long-length geometry provides a 1-1/4 inch length of cut and a 3-1/2 inch overall length, giving technicians reach into deeper pockets and slots without sacrificing rigidity. The submicron carbide grade and bright uncoated finish are matched to aluminum, copper, brass, and similar non-ferrous workpiece materials where coating buildup can be a problem. This is a single-end, centercutting tool suitable for plunge entry as well as standard peripheral milling.
This end mill is built for roughing operations on non-ferrous metals in production machining environments. Its coarse pitch and high helix promote chip evacuation in gummy materials like aluminum alloys. The straight cylindrical shank with a 3/8 inch diameter fits standard collet chucks, shrink-fit holders, and is compatible with HC 1/2 to HC 1-1/4 hydraulic sleeves with inch bores as noted by the manufacturer. Machinists running CNC machining centers or manual mills in job shop, aerospace, and general manufacturing settings will find this tool sized for typical roughing passes in medium-depth cavity work.
Compatible with HC 1/2 to HC 1-1/4 hydraulic sleeves with inch bores. The 3/8 inch straight cylindrical shank fits standard collet chucks and shrink-fit toolholders accepting that shank diameter. Intended for use on non-ferrous metals per the KENNAMETAL AADE series material application designation.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists following the machine tool manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety protocols. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before loading or changing tooling. Verify holder runout and clamping torque per the toolholder manufacturer specification before engaging the cut. Do not use this uncoated tool on ferrous materials, as it is optimized specifically for non-ferrous workpiece materials.
