The KENNAMETAL 3781286 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Running the A4G0600GUP geometry in the KCU10 grade, it features a 6 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 4.5 mm. The AlTiN coating is applied via PVD process, delivering hard-surface wear resistance suited for ferrous and alloy workpiece materials. The insert has a neutral hand orientation and a positive rake angle, reducing cutting forces during grooving passes. Machinists and CNC turning specialists install this insert into compatible A4-series toolholders as a direct replacement unit.
This insert is intended for grooving and light parting applications in both production and job-shop turning environments. The GUP chip breaker geometry is suited for moderate-feed grooving where chip control matters. The 0.80 mm corner radius supports general-purpose groove profiles without a full radius. Material grades C3 and C4 indicate suitability for cast iron, steel, and similar materials at moderate cutting parameters. It is sold individually but carries a minimum order quantity of 10 units, making it appropriate for shop-stock replenishment or toolcrib inventory management.
Designed for use with A4-series grooving and parting toolholders that accept the A4G insert style. Specific holder compatibility should be confirmed against KENNAMETAL A4 system toolholder documentation before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully and evenly in the pocket and secure the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque range — do not overtighten. Inspect the insert seating and clamping mechanism for chips or debris before each use to prevent insert rocking or premature edge failure.
