The KENNAMETAL 3769468 is a VBMT332FP screw-on turning insert in the KCU25 grade, designed for precision finishing operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built from solid carbide with a PVD-applied AlTiN coating, this insert delivers moderate wear resistance and toughness across a wide range of workpiece materials. The 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape provides a positive rake angle of 15 degrees and a 5-degree relief angle, reducing cutting forces during light finishing passes. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 3/16-inch thickness, and a 1/32-inch corner radius, it is suited for controlled depth-of-cut work up to 0.05 inches. Machinists and CNC operators specify this insert for tight-tolerance surface finishing where tool life consistency matters.
This insert is rated for primary use on steel, stainless steel, and superalloys and titanium, with secondary application on cast iron and aluminum and non-ferrous materials. The FP chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing cuts, and the honed cutting edge reduces built-up edge on difficult materials. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with standard VBMT-style toolholders used in both OD turning and boring applications. Installation is performed by CNC machinists and toolroom technicians using standard torx or hex keys appropriate to the toolholder screw. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the pocket pocket walls before tightening the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris that could prevent proper seating and affect surface finish or tool life.
