The KENNAMETAL 3769441 is a solid carbide turning insert designated SCMT3252FP in the KCU25 grade, carrying an AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride) coating applied via PVD process. It features a 90-degree square shape with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, a 0.0313 inch corner radius, and a 5/32 inch insert thickness. The FP chip breaker geometry is designed for finishing operations, delivering controlled chip formation at light depths of cut. Positive rake and positive side clearance reduce cutting forces on the workpiece. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC lathe operators performing turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium.
This insert is suited for finishing passes on steel and stainless steel workpieces in both production and job-shop environments. The KCU25 grade offers moderate wear resistance and toughness across steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), aluminum and non-ferrous (N), and superalloy and titanium (S) material categories. Maximum depth of cut is 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm), making it appropriate for light, precise material removal rather than heavy roughing. Multi-use capability supports turning, facing, and boring applications from a single insert geometry, reducing tool inventory requirements.
Designed for use in screw-on style toolholders conforming to ANSI insert code SCMT3252 and ISO insert code SCMT09T308. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, and superalloys and titanium; secondary materials include cast iron and non-ferrous alloys.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Use the manufacturer-specified torque driver for the screw-on clamp screw to ensure proper seating without cracking the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new or indexed edge.
