The KENNAMETAL 3769427 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI insert code CPMT3251FP and manufacturer grade KCU25. It features a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) AlTiN coating applied over a carbide substrate, delivering moderate wear resistance and toughness across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert has an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. With a positive rake angle of 15 degrees and a positive side clearance, the geometry is optimized for finishing operations. Screw-On holding secures the insert in compatible toolholders. Cutting edge style is honed, and the insert provides 2 usable cutting edges per piece.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring applications on CNC lathes and turning centers in both production and job-shop environments. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous alloys, and superalloys including titanium. The FP chip breaker designation targets finishing cuts where tight chip control and surface finish quality are priorities. The KCU25 grade is designed to balance wear resistance and toughness, making it a practical choice for interrupted or variable-condition cuts in the material families listed. Neutral hand orientation allows use in either direction without repositioning.
Designed for use in screw-on style toolholders accepting CPMT3251 (ANSI) or CPMT09T304 (ISO) inserts. Verify toolholder pocket geometry, clearance angle, and chip breaker pocket configuration before installation. Compatible with material grades C2 and C6 toolholder designations.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque driver for the screw-on clamp screw to avoid stripping the insert pocket; refer to the toolholder manufacturer specifications for fastener torque. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for debris or damage before securing the insert, as an improperly seated insert can cause premature edge failure or workpiece dimensional error.
