The KENNAMETAL 3769410 is a solid carbide turning insert in the WPMT3251FP geometry, finished with a PVD-applied AlTiN coating under the KC5010 grade designation. This insert features an 80-degree trigon (W-shape) with a positive rake angle of 15 degrees, an 11-degree relief angle, and a honed cutting edge style. The FP chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing operations, delivering tight surface finish results at light depths of cut up to 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm). With three usable cutting edges and a screw-on holding method, it is well suited for production turning environments where insert economy and repeatability matter. Licensed machinists and CNC turning technicians are the primary installers.
This insert is designed for use on CNC lathes and turning centers performing turning, facing, and boring operations. The AlTiN PVD coating provides high wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials, making the insert effective for stainless steel, steel, cast iron, aluminum, superalloys, and titanium. The FP finishing geometry performs best at lower feed rates and shallower depths of cut, where it produces consistent surface finishes with minimal chatter. It is a neutral-hand insert, usable in both right- and left-hand toolholders that accept the WPMT screw-on insert style.
Designed as a screw-on replacement insert for WPMT-style toolholders conforming to ANSI insert code WPMT3251 and ISO insert code WPMT06T304. Compatible with toolholders specifying a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, W-shape insert pocket, positive rake, and P-clearance screw-on retention.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a full stop, locked-out condition. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque; do not overtighten, as this can crack the carbide insert body. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new edge, and confirm the insert is fully seated before resuming cuts. Follow shop safety procedures for handling sharp carbide edges.
