The KENNAMETAL 3769405 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VBMT331FP geometry, carrying the KCU10 grade designation and an AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride) PVD coating. This insert features a 35-degree diamond shape with a positive rake angle of 15 degrees and a 5-degree relief angle, making it well suited for light to moderate material removal in demanding applications. The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inches, insert length is 16.61 mm (approximately 0.654 inches), and the corner radius is 1/64 inches. The cutting edge is honed, and the chip breaker designation is FP. A screw-on holding method secures the insert in compatible toolholders. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary users of this insert.
This insert is primarily targeted at machining stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium (ISO material codes M and S), with secondary suitability for cast iron, non-ferrous materials, and steel (ISO codes K, N, and P). Typical applications include turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations. The 35-degree diamond insert shape and positive rake geometry help reduce cutting forces when working with difficult-to-machine materials. The FP chip breaker geometry is designed to control chip formation during these operations. This insert meets ANSI and ISO standards for indexable cutting inserts.

Insert replacement and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC technician with the machine fully stopped and the spindle locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Use the correct Torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer when tightening the clamping screw — do not overtighten. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Verify insert orientation and cutting edge selection before resuming operation.
