The KENNAMETAL 3769390 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC and manual turning applications. Carrying the ANSI designation TPMT18151FP and ISO designation TPMT090204, this insert features an AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride) PVD coating applied to a carbide substrate graded KC5010. The triangular TPMT insert geometry provides three usable cutting edges with a positive rake angle of 15 degrees and a positive side clearance. With a corner radius of 0.0156 inches (1/64 inch), the FP chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing operations, delivering tight surface finishes and controlled chip evacuation at light-to-moderate depths of cut.
This insert is suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes on stainless steel, steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. The KC5010 grade offers high wear resistance with moderate toughness, making it effective across P, M, K, N, S, and H workpiece material classifications. Typical applications include turning, facing, and boring on CNC lathes in both job shop and production environments. The screw-on holding method ensures repeatable insert indexing with minimal setup time between edges. Installation is performed by licensed machinists or skilled CNC operators.
Designed for use in screw-on TPMT-style toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards. Compatible with turning, facing, and boring operations across P, M, K, N, S, and H workpiece material classifications. Refer to toolholder manufacturer specifications to confirm seat and clamp compatibility before installation.
Insert replacement and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine fully stopped and locked out per applicable safety procedures. Use the correct torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the clamping screw to the recommended engagement — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new edge. Confirm depth-of-cut and feed rate settings are within the insert grade and chip breaker operating range before resuming the cut.
