The KENNAMETAL 3769228 is a solid carbide turning insert with a CPMT3252FP geometry and KCM25 grade designation. It features a multilayer CVD coating sequence of TiN, TiCN, and Al2O3 applied via the MTCVD process, delivering a combination of high toughness and moderate wear resistance suited to steel and stainless steel turning operations. The insert measures 9.67 mm in length with a 0.375 inch inscribed circle and a 0.03125 inch corner radius. The 80-degree diamond shape, positive rake angle of 15 degrees, and FP chip breaker geometry are configured for finishing passes. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators working in production or job-shop environments install this insert as part of a screw-on tooling system.
This insert is intended for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces. The KCM25 grade is rated for high toughness on steel (P-class) and moderate wear resistance with toughness on stainless steel (M-class), with secondary suitability for superalloys and titanium (S-class). The FP chip breaker is optimized for finishing-depth cuts, making this insert appropriate for light material removal where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are the primary objectives.
Conforms to ANSI insert code CPMT3252 and ISO insert code CPMT09T308. Fits screw-on style CPMT toolholders designed to the ANSI and ISO CPMT09T308 pocket specification. Verify toolholder manufacturer pocket dimensions before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine in a full stop and lockout-tagout procedure applied before indexing or replacing the insert. Seat the insert fully into the pocket and tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer specified torque using a torx or hex key driver appropriate for that holder. Inspect the pocket seat and clamping pin for wear or carbide debris before seating a fresh insert to ensure proper contact and prevent premature edge failure. Confirm correct insert orientation and chip breaker direction relative to the programmed feed direction before resuming the cut.
