The KENNAMETAL 3769133 is a VBMT331FP screw-on turning insert in grade KCM15, manufactured from solid carbide with a multilayer MTCVD-applied TiCN and Al2O3 coating. It features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a positive rake angle of 15 degrees, and a 5-degree relief angle with positive side clearance. The FP chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing operations. With 2 cutting edges and a honed cutting edge style, this insert is suited to productive, consistent performance on steel and stainless steel turning applications. Licensed tradespeople and CNC machinists install this insert in screw-on style toolholders on CNC lathes and turning centers.
This insert is designed for finishing passes on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces. The KCM15 grade delivers moderate wear resistance combined with toughness on steel (ISO P materials) and transitions to high-to-moderate wear resistance on stainless steel (ISO M materials). Multi-use application coverage includes turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring. The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inches (0.3750 inches), insert length is 16.61 mm (1.3076 inches), and the corner radius is 1/64 inches (0.0156 inches). Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches), consistent with the finishing-class geometry designation.
Designed for use in screw-on style VBMT toolholders compatible with ANSI insert code VBMT331 and ISO insert code VBMT160404. Suitable for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring of steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards for this insert geometry class.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and zero out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the clamping screw to the correct engagement — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and susceptible to fracture under excessive clamping force. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and accurate tool offset.
