The KENNAMETAL 3769130 is a VBMT221FP screw-on turning insert in grade KCM15, designed for precision finishing operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle of 15 degrees and a positive side clearance, producing clean, accurate cuts at controlled depths. The KCM15 grade uses a multilayer MTCVD coating of TiCN and Al2O3, targeting moderate to high wear resistance across steel and stainless steel workpieces. With a 0.0156-inch corner radius and an FP chip breaker geometry, this insert is optimized for finishing passes requiring tight tolerances and good surface finish. Two cutting edges per insert extend service life between indexing cycles.
This insert is suited for finish turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring applications in production and job-shop environments. Primary workpiece materials include steel (P-grade applications), stainless steel (M-grade applications), superalloys, and titanium. The VBMT style and screw-on holding method make it compatible with standard VBMT toolholders used in both light and moderate-duty turning setups. Typical users include CNC machinists and toolroom operators running moderate material removal at finishing parameters.
Designed as a screw-on replacement insert for VBMT-style turning toolholders. Meets ANSI insert code VBMT221 and ISO insert code VBMT110304. Compatible with toolholders rated for the VBMT insert style, screw-on clamping method, and a 0.25-inch inscribed circle.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Secure the insert with the screw-on fastener to the torque specification listed in the toolholder documentation — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excess clamp load. Verify seating and edge orientation before resuming cuts.
