The KENNAMETAL 3769037 is a VBMT221FP screw-on turning insert in grade KCP10, manufactured from solid carbide with a multilayer MTCVD-applied TiCN and Al2O3 coating. The insert features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle of 15 degrees and a 5-degree relief angle, making it well suited for finishing operations. The inscribed circle measures 0.25 inches, insert thickness is 0.125 inches, and the corner radius is 0.0156 inches (1/64 inch). Two cutting edges are available per insert. KCP10 grade delivers high wear resistance on steel and moderate wear resistance with toughness on aluminum and non-ferrous materials.
This insert is designed for use on CNC lathes and turning centers in metalworking applications including turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring. It is primarily intended for machining steel and cast iron (ISO material group P) and is also rated for aluminum and non-ferrous materials (ISO material group N). The FP chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing cuts with a maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm). It is a neutral-hand insert suitable for a wide range of screw-on toolholders. Machinists and CNC operators working in job shop, production, or maintenance turning environments will find this insert appropriate for light finishing passes requiring tight surface finish control.
Designed for use in screw-on VBMT-style toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards for 35-degree diamond inserts with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle. Compatible with toolholders specifying ANSI size code 221 and ISO size code 110304. Suitable for steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous workpiece materials.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and fully stop the spindle before seating or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque; do not overtighten, as this can crack the carbide. Inspect the insert seat and clamping screw for wear or debris before installing a new insert to ensure proper seating and cutting edge alignment.
