The KENNAMETAL 3768940 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI designation CCMT3252FP and ISO designation CCMT09T308, finished in a multilayer TiCN and Al2O3 CVD coating through an MTCVD process. It carries the KCP10 manufacturer grade and is designed for finishing operations in turning, facing, and boring applications. The insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a positive rake angle of 15 degrees, and a positive side clearance. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/32-inch corner radius, and a honed cutting edge style, it delivers high wear resistance on steel and moderate wear resistance with toughness on aluminum and non-ferrous materials. Two cutting edges are available per insert, and the screw-on holding method ensures secure seating in compatible toolholders.
This insert is suited for finishing passes on steel and cast iron workpieces (primary workpiece material codes P and N), where tight tolerances and surface finish quality are the priority. The FP chip breaker geometry is optimized for low-depth finishing cuts, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.1268 inches. It is used by machinists and toolroom technicians in CNC turning centers and manual lathes performing external turning, facing, and boring operations. The CCMT-style geometry fits standard screw-on toolholders designed around this insert family.
Designed for use in screw-on CCMT-style toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards for CCMT3252 / CCMT09T308 insert seating. Suitable for CNC and manual turning applications on steel and cast iron as primary workpiece materials, and aluminum and non-ferrous materials as secondary applications.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician using the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the insert in the screw-on pocket. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specified for the FP chip breaker geometry, as overloading a finishing insert can cause premature edge failure.
