The KENNAMETAL 3761038 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert in the KENLOC series, designed for steel and stainless steel turning, facing, and boring operations. It carries the KCM25 manufacturer grade and features a multilayer CVD coating of TiN, TiCN, and Al2O3 applied by MTCVD process, delivering a balance of high toughness on steel and moderate wear-resistance and toughness on stainless steel. The insert has an 80-degree diamond shape with a 5/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/32-inch corner radius, and a negative rake and clearance geometry. The UP chip breaker is rated for roughing and medium machining. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in negative-seat toolholders designed for CNMG geometry.
This insert is suited for roughing and medium turning passes on steel, stainless steel, and superalloys including titanium. With four cutting edges and a neutral hand orientation, it fits standard CNMG clamp-and-pin style toolholders in production turning and job-shop environments. Its honed cutting edge style reduces chipping risk in interrupted cuts and on work-hardened surfaces. The UP chip breaker geometry controls chip evacuation across a broad feed and depth-of-cut range, making it practical for both lathe turning and CNC boring bar applications.
Designed for use in negative-seat CNMG toolholders that accept the ANSI size code 542 (ISO size code 160608) insert geometry using clamp or pin retention. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring applications on steel, stainless steel, and superalloys including titanium.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tool-setup technicians. Before indexing or replacing inserts, confirm the machine spindle is stopped and all motion is locked out per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert fully into the pocket and verify the clamp or pin applies even clamping force before initiating a cut. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specified for the insert geometry, and inspect the cutting edge and chip breaker for wear or damage at each index.
