The KENNAMETAL 3761004 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert in the KENLOC series, designed for steel and stainless steel machining in turning, facing, and boring operations. It carries a multilayer CVD coating of TiN, TiCN, and Al2O3 applied via MTCVD process, using the KCM25 grade. That grade is engineered for high toughness on steel (P-class) and moderate wear-resistance with toughness on stainless steel (M-class). The insert measures 12.9 mm (0.5077 inches) in length with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, a 0.0625-inch corner radius, and a 3/16-inch thickness. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape and negative rake geometry make it well suited for roughing and medium machining passes. Four cutting edges are available per insert.
This insert is intended for use in CNMG-compatible toolholders using clamp or pin holding methods. It applies to a wide range of CNC turning centers and manual lathes in both production and job-shop environments. Primary workpiece materials are steel and stainless steel, with secondary suitability for superalloys and titanium (S-class). The RP chip breaker geometry handles roughing and medium machining chip control effectively across these material groups. Machinists and CNC operators working in aerospace, general manufacturing, and heavy industry will find this insert appropriate for high-material-removal-rate roughing applications.
Designed for use in CNMG-style toolholders that accept 434-size inserts with clamp or pin clamping. Conforms to ANSI insert code CNMG434 and ISO insert code CNMG120416. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring applications on steel, stainless steel, and superalloys and titanium workpieces.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified for the toolholder to secure the insert without cracking the carbide substrate. Inspect the seat pocket and chip breaker contact surfaces for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
