The KENNAMETAL 3760439 is a CNMG643RP-style turning insert in the KCM35 grade, designed for external and internal turning operations on steel, stainless steel, and superalloys including titanium. The insert features a multilayer CVD coating stack of TiN, TiCN, and Al2O3 applied via MTCVD process, combining wear resistance with toughness suited to interrupted cuts and variable stock conditions. With an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape, a negative rake angle of 5 degrees, and chamfered plus honed cutting edges, this insert delivers controlled chip formation in roughing and medium machining passes. Four usable cutting edges extend tool life per insert. It seats in KENLOC-style toolholders using clamp or pin retention.
This insert is intended for use on CNC lathes and turning centers in both production and job-shop environments. It is engineered for roughing and medium machining of steel (P-category) applications requiring high toughness, and stainless steel (M-category) applications requiring moderate to high wear resistance combined with toughness. Superalloys and titanium are listed as primary workpiece materials. The RP chip breaker geometry supports consistent chip control across varying feed rates and depths. Qualified machinists and CNC operators install this insert as part of routine insert rotation and tooling maintenance cycles.
Designed as an OEM-style insert for KENLOC-series turning toolholders accepting CNMG643 inserts. Confirm toolholder pocket dimensions against ANSI insert code CNMG643 and ISO insert code CNMG190612 before installation.
Insert installation and rotation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Use a torque wrench and appropriate clamping screw tool as specified by the toolholder manufacturer - do not overtighten, as this can fracture the insert. Inspect the toolholder pocket seat for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
