The KENNAMETAL 3760312 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI designation TPMT3252LF and ISO designation TPMT16T308, designed for precision metal removal in CNC and manual lathe applications. The insert features a multilayer MTCVD coating stack of TiN, TiCN, and Al2O3 under the KCM25 grade, which delivers high toughness on steel and moderate wear-resistance and toughness on stainless steel. The 60-degree triangular geometry provides three usable cutting edges per insert, and the LF chip breaker is optimized for finishing and light machining passes. The insert measures 0.6495 inches in length with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch corner radius.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, and superalloys including titanium. The positive rake angle of 5 degrees and positive side clearance reduce cutting forces, making the insert well-matched to lighter depths of cut up to 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm). It is intended for use by machinists and toolroom technicians running production or job-shop lathe work where surface finish and dimensional accuracy on difficult materials are the primary goals. The screw-on holding method ensures repeatable seating in compatible TPMT-style toolholders.
Designed for use in TPMT-style screw-on toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle triangular insert. Conforms to ANSI insert code TPMT3252 and ISO insert code TPMT16T308. Compatible with primary workpiece materials coded P (steel), M (stainless steel), and superalloys including titanium per the KCM25 grade specification.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician using the appropriate Torx or hex key to seat the insert screw. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping screw for wear or contamination before seating a new insert, as debris under the insert can cause premature edge failure or dimensional drift. Verify insert orientation and chip breaker direction match the intended cut direction before resuming operation.
