The KENNAMETAL 3758797 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI designation TNMG331FP and ISO designation TNMG160404, coated with a multilayer TiCN and Al2O3 MTCVD CVD coating in the KCM15 grade. It carries a 60-degree triangular shape with a negative rake angle and neutral hand orientation. The insert measures 16.5 mm (0.6496 inches) in length with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch corner radius. The FP chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing operations. This insert is part of the KENLOC series and is held in place via clamp or pin mounting. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install and index these inserts in production turning applications.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel and stainless steel workpieces, with secondary capability on superalloys and titanium. The KCM15 grade targets moderate wear resistance and toughness for steel (P workpiece material code) and high to moderate wear resistance for stainless steel (M workpiece material code). The FP chip breaker geometry makes this insert particularly effective in light finishing passes where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are priorities. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches).
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders accepting TNMG style inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch insert thickness, and 0.150-inch hole diameter. Conforms to ANSI and ISO insert standards (ANSI TNMG331, ISO TNMG160404).
Installation and indexing of carbide turning inserts should be performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use a torx or hex key appropriate to the KENLOC clamping system as specified by the toolholder manufacturer. Inspect the insert pocket seat and clamp for debris or damage before seating a new insert, as contamination in the pocket can cause premature edge failure or dimensional drift.
