The KENNAMETAL 3755655 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TPMT2151LF geometry with a KCM15 grade designation. It features a multilayer MTCVD coating of TiCN and Al2O3, delivering a balance of wear resistance and toughness suited for finishing and light machining operations. The insert has a 60-degree triangular shape with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, a positive side clearance, and a honed cutting edge. With an inscribed circle of 0.25 inches and a corner radius of 0.0156 inches (1/64 inch), it is designed for precision material removal at light depths of cut. Machinists and CNC operators working in production turning environments install this insert in screw-on toolholders.
This insert is intended for turning, facing, and boring applications on steel, stainless steel, and superalloys including titanium. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and light machining passes, making it appropriate for tight-tolerance work where surface finish and dimensional control are priorities. The KCM15 grade characteristics cover Steel (P) applications requiring moderate wear resistance and toughness, and Stainless Steel (M) applications requiring high to moderate wear resistance and toughness. It carries three usable cutting edges per insert, supporting cost-effective tool life management in high-volume turning programs.
Designed for use in screw-on TPMT-style toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards. The ANSI insert code is TPMT2151 and the ISO insert code is TPMT110204. Compatible with multi-use turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, and superalloy workpiece materials.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC setup technicians using the appropriate torx or hex key for the insert clamping screw — consult the toolholder manufacturer's torque specification for the screw size used. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert, as contamination will affect runout and surface finish. Rotate to a fresh cutting edge before replacing the insert entirely to maximize value per piece.
