The KENNAMETAL 3755545 is a solid carbide turning insert in the SPMT3252MF geometry, designated grade KCK20, designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and machining centers. The insert features a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 5/32-inch thickness, and a 1/32-inch corner radius. It carries a multilayer PVD coating combining AlTiN and AlCrN for high wear resistance in steel and cast iron applications. With four usable cutting edges, a positive rake angle, and screw-on holding method, it delivers consistent performance across finishing and medium machining operations. Chamfered and honed cutting edge preparation adds edge stability and reduces built-up edge.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel (ISO P workpiece group) and cast iron (ISO K workpiece group) in both production and job-shop environments. The MF chip breaker geometry targets finishing to medium machining pass depths, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.050 inches (1.25 mm). It conforms to ANSI insert code SPMT3252 and ISO insert code SPMT09T308. The KCK20 grade is characterized by high wear resistance in steel and a range from high wear resistance to moderate toughness in cast iron, making it appropriate where surface finish consistency and tool life are priorities over interrupted-cut toughness.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct application insert for screw-on style turning toolholders accepting SPMT3252 ANSI or SPMT09T308 ISO geometry inserts. Confirm toolholder pocket geometry, screw diameter (4.40 mm hole diameter), and clearance angle requirements before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians following standard indexable insert change procedures. Disengage the machine spindle and confirm all axes are at a safe home position before handling inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key to torque the clamp screw to toolholder manufacturer specifications - do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can fracture under excess clamp load. Inspect the toolholder pocket seating surface for chips or wear before seating a new edge.
