The KENNAMETAL 3754856 is a CNMM643RM-geometry turning insert in grade KCP40, designed for steel and stainless steel machining operations. It features a multilayer CVD coating stack of TiN, TiCN, and Al2O3 applied via MTCVD process, delivering a combination of high toughness on steel (P-grade workpieces) and moderate wear resistance on stainless steel (M-grade). The insert has an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a negative rake and negative side clearance, and four usable cutting edges. The RM chip breaker geometry targets roughing and medium machining applications. Installed in KENLOC-series toolholders, this insert suits licensed trade machinists and tooling specialists running production turning, facing, or boring cycles.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel and stainless steel workpieces in both production and job-shop environments. The KCP40 grade is engineered for conditions that demand high toughness against interrupted cuts and thermal shock on steel, while providing adequate wear resistance for stainless steel passes. The RM chip breaker handles variable depths of cut typical of roughing and transitional medium-machining passes. Insert holding is compatible with both clamp-style and pin-style toolholder systems, broadening fixture compatibility across common CNMM-format holders.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders accepting CNMM-format inserts with clamp or pin holding. ANSI insert code CNMM643; ISO insert code CNMM190612.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Secure the insert fully using the appropriate clamp or pin per the toolholder manufacturer specification before resuming cuts. Do not exceed the rated maximum depth of cut for the RM chip breaker geometry to avoid edge fracture during roughing passes.
