The KENNAMETAL 3753996 is a CNMG642RN indexable turning insert in the KCP40 carbide grade, designed for general turning, facing, and boring operations on steel and stainless steel workpieces. It features a multilayer CVD coating of TiN, TiCN, and Al2O3 applied via MTCVD process, which provides high toughness against steel (P-class) and moderate wear resistance with toughness for stainless steel (M-class). The insert measures 19.34 mm (0.7616 inches) in length with a 3/4 inch inscribed circle and a 1/32 inch corner radius. It carries four usable cutting edges and is rated for both roughing and medium machining chip-breaking conditions under the RN chip breaker designation.
This insert is suited for use in KENLOC-series toolholders in production turning environments handling steel and stainless steel components. Typical applications include external turning, face turning, and boring on lathes and turning centers in both job-shop and higher-volume manufacturing settings. The neutral hand orientation and 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape make it versatile across a range of approach angles and workpiece geometries. Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret or tool post is locked before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces before engaging the clamp or pin; an improperly seated insert can fracture under load. Verify that the toolholder, insert pocket, and shim are free of chips and debris prior to installation.
