The KENNAMETAL 3753642 is a round (RNMG54RN) solid carbide turning insert in the KCP30 grade, designed for steel and stainless steel turning, facing, and boring operations. It carries a multilayer CVD coating of TiN, TiCN, and Al2O3 applied via MTCVD process, which delivers moderate wear resistance combined with toughness suited to both roughing and medium machining. The insert features a 5/8-inch inscribed circle (0.6250 inches), a 3/8-inch corner radius (0.3750 inches), and a 1/4-inch insert thickness (0.2500 inches). With 8 available cutting edges and neutral hand orientation, it offers strong value per edge in high-volume turning cells.
This insert is rated for primary workpiece materials in the ISO P (steel) and ISO M (stainless steel) categories, covering moderate wear-resistance and toughness through high toughness demands. The RN chip breaker geometry is optimized for roughing and medium machining passes. Compatible holding methods include clamp and pin-style toolholders. The KENLOC series designation indicates it is engineered for use in Kennametal KENLOC-style toolholder systems. It is installed by machinists and CNC turning operators in production and job-shop environments handling steel and stainless components.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders accepting RNMG-style round inserts with a clamp or pin holding method. Conforms to ANSI insert code RNMG54 and ISO insert code RNMG150600. Suitable for steel (ISO P) and stainless steel (ISO M) workpiece materials.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is locked before seating or indexing the insert. Use the appropriate Kennametal KENLOC clamp or pin-style toolholder specified for the RNMG54 pocket size. Inspect the insert pocket seating surface for chips or debris before clamping to maintain proper insert orientation and prevent premature edge failure.
